Why data warehouse? What is the use of it?
Organizations these days are looking forward to create a
next level of technology transformation. They are now trying to make themselves
much more operational with easy to inter operate data. As we know that data
plays an important role in any organization, be it every day data or some
historical data. Data is the “backbone”
of any report and reports are the baseline on which all the vital management
decisions are taken.
Many organizations are taking a step forward for
constructing their ‘Data warehouse’ to store and monitor real time data as well
as historical data. Creating an
essential and huge data warehouse is not an easy task. Many organizations use
distributed technology hence to create a data warehouse for those applications
running on distributed environment is not an easy task. ETL tool is employed in
order to make a flawless integration between different data sources from
different departments.
Hence ETL tool will work as an integrator, extracting data from
different sources, transforming t in preferred format based on the business
transformation rules and loading it in cohesive database know as “Data warehouse”. This is clearly shown in the diagram below:
